Engagement Party Planning for Dummies
Getting engaged is often a huge milestone in a person’s life and often one that is celebrated by a similarly huge party. Planning an engagement party can be a lot of fun, as well as a lot of hard work. However, anyone can successfully throw a great party with a little bit of advice.
K.I.S.S. This silly acronym has been used by people all over to refer to many different things; but, when applied to party planning, it’s true meaning really shines through. K.I.S.S. means, “keep it simple, stupid.” Now, this does not really sound too kind at first, but it actually makes a lot of sense in context. The main thing for any party planner to remember is that simple is almost always better. Going overboard with crazy decorations and way too many games or an overload of food can make guests feel crowded, rushed, or uptight when they should be having fun. Keeping things simple is the best way to go.
Keep the Focus Clear. For an engagement party, it is also very important to think about the couple whom the party is celebrating. Tying in some of their own personal ideas can be a fun way to keep the focus of the celebration on the couple. Making a cake that has their engagement picture on it or sending out engagement party invites with a cute photo of the ring is one way to make them feel really special and important. Playing games that center on these individuals is also a great idea. Have guests try to guess the couple’s favorite foods, animals, colors, and more, and whoever wins gets an “engagement ring” pop.
Have a Little Toast. If the party is adults only, break out the good stuff. Spare no expense to celebrate this special time in life. If the soon to be bride and groom really love a certain wine or beer, grab some glasses and have guests propose toasts to the happy couple, as they would do at a wedding. This can also be made into a fun game where people make humorous toasts, and whoever laughs has to take a drink and then perform some kind of embarrassing or silly act at the request of the rest of the guests. There are plenty of ways to have a great time planning and putting on an amazing and fun engagement party. Just remember to keep it simple and have a good time.
