Meet Colleen & Doug! Here is their engagement story... Our engagement took place in Paris - the most romantic city! In September 2006, I was on a trip with co-workers and I was allowed to bring Doug. By coincidence it was our 1 year anniversary our first day in Paris. I was hoping to celebrate with Doug, but, we were required to attend a welcome dinner. However, before we went to dinner, Doug gave me a beautiful bracelet, and told me we would go out to dinner by ourselves the next day to celebrate. The next evening he told me the location of the dinner would be a surprise. When we got into the taxi, he handed the driver a note - he had the concierge from the hotel write a note in French saying "take us to the Eiffel Tower, it's a surprise!" When we arrived at the Eiffel Tower, I was confused. When we got out of the cab, Doug said, "we're having dinner in the Eiffel Tower!" I had no idea there was a restaurant there, it was such a surprise. He's so romantic, I gave him a big hug and kiss!

The dinner and the view were spectacular. The sun was setting and we were sitting next to the window. The Seine River was below us and we were holding hands across the table. I was so impressed that he planned this perfect dinner for our anniversary. After dinner we took the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower. There are signs all over saying "Watch your bag - people pick pockets!" The view was great, but, it was extremely windy, so we went back down the elevator.

Then I spotted a crepe stand across the street. I wanted a chocolate ice cream cone, but, with a crepe-cone. So, I got one, only the crepe was too hot and was melting the ice cream. As I was eating it, the chocolate started dripping everywhere. I didn't care, it was delicious! Doug kept asking me if I was finished with it - he said it was going to drip on my dress. After one more bite, I gave it to him and he tossed it in the trash.

Then he suggested that we sit along the Seine River. Just before I sat down on the steps, he told me to turn around. He was behind me on one knee with a diamond ring! I was speechless. He said "will you marry me?" and after a pause because I was in shock I said, "yes, of course!!!" We couldn't stop hugging and kissing each other. The Eiffel Tower was lit up right behind us, it was so amazing. This is a picture of us soon after he proposed, I'm so glad I had my camera with me. A nice tourist took a beautiful picture!

We then found a bistro and celebrated with champagne! I had so many questions for him about how he managed to get the ring here, and was he nervous about getting pick-pocketed? He told me the whole story, how he traveled 2 hours to ask my parents for permission, made the reservations for dinner from the States, and how he managed to hide the ring from me in the hotel safe. We laughed and cried happy tears. It was a fairy tale proposal, I feel so lucky to have him as my future husband!.
