Our consultants share some useful moving tips

Moving can be a bit of a challenge, but with a bit of planning it doesn’t have to be! We wanted to share a couple tips to help make the moving process as painless and stress-free as possible!

Tip One: Plan ahead and gather moving boxes from local stores or your corporate office. More often than not, local businesses receive daily deliveries of product and then toss the boxes. Visit the store and ask if they are going to have boxes you can take. Purchasing boxes is also an option. New boxes are great for large pieces but the price of new supplies can add up fast so it’s good to have a mix of gathered boxes and some new ones if you can.

Tip Two: Do your research and select a great moving company. Research online or ask friends and family for recommendations on movers. Many times this will start you in the right direction – you want to make sure the company you hire is reputable and will treat your belongings with care to avoid damage. Also, look into all fees involved with the move since different companies have different fees. Some companies also may offer a small discount if you pay in cash rather than with a credit card.

Tip Three: Be prepared. Be sure to call ahead and set up any electric, cable or internet installation prior to the move to coincide with the day of the move or on the following day. With electric, this is best set up prior to moving in.) This step is important as appointments fill up fast!

Also, weather cannot be planned for, but plan to have an umbrella handy in case of rain and have water on hand if it’s warm out. Moving is tough work and it’s important to stay hydrated!

And finally, once you're settled in, don't forget to order your moving announcements or change of address cards and let your family and friends know how they can find you.
