Wedding Checklist

Are you planning your wedding or helping a loved one plan their wedding? The key is to start planning early. The secret to the perfect wedding is preparation. Use the following checklist as a guide to help make your day one to remember.

The year before your wedding

  • Announce your engagement
  • Plan an engagement party and order engagement invitations
  • Plan a budget
  • Decide on a date
  • Decide on the type of wedding and reception you want to have (traditional, destination, formal)
  • Decide on the location for your ceremony and reception and make reservations
  • Consult your clergy person to set up the date and time for the ceremony
  • Reserve a caterer and have taste testings early if having a home wedding
  • Determine the number of guests you are able to invite
  • Choose the members of your wedding party and ask them to serve (see wine bottle labels)
  • Make out the guest list
  • Order your wedding gown, as well as bridal party attire (including bridesmaids gowns, flower girl dresses, ring bearer suits and groomsmen suits)
  • Order Save the Date announcements
  • Set up interviews with wedding professionals

3-6 months before your wedding

2 months before your wedding

  • Hire day-of transportation (limousines, buses, etc.)
  • Register for wedding and shower gifts (also would move up to the 3-6 months out section)
  • Make detailed arrangements with the manager of your reception site as far as centerpieces, decorations, parking etc.
  • Order wedding programs
  • Make hair and make-up appointments
  • Select wedding rings with your groom
  • Mail wedding invitations
  • Plan the rehearsal dinner arrangements
  • Send rehearsal dinner invitations

1 month before your wedding

  • Have formal bridal photographs taken once you have the final fitting of your dress
  • Secure your marriage license (and check the dates of validity)
  • Make final arrangements with the professionals you are working with
  • Make your seating arrangements
  • Arrange the details of the bridal and bridesmaid's luncheon if you wish to have one

The morning of your wedding

  • Have your hair and nails done
  • Have your make-up done
  • Have your bridesmaids arrive early to assist you with dressing and any last minute details
  • Relax and have fun!
